About CajunRocker.com |
 |
This website has been a dream of mine for a long time. After a lot of organizing and gathering information, I finally put all of the pictures and ideas together. Then I shook my computer real hard and out came CajunRocker.com...
A little about me...
My name is Richard Smith, known to my friends as "Smitty", better known professionally as "GoodTimes DJ Smitty".
I was born on or about October 1946 in Crowley, Louisiana. That's right in the
middle of Cajun Country. While living in southwest Louisiana, I became very interested in
music. I taught myself to play the drums at the age of 13, while attending middle school.
I started playing Cajun and Louisiana style rock and roll at the age of 15 with some of the local bands. I was raised by my grandparents and they supported me all the
way in my music. My grandfather would take me to Crowley to rent a small set of
drums for practice.
On Saturday nights, my grandfather would take me to see TK Hulin,
Johnny Allan, Warren Storm and Charles Man concerts. They were my favorite Swampop stars. My favorite Cajun stars were Walter Mouton, Aldus Roger, Belton Richard and my uncle Bubby Myers. My Uncle inspired me to play music. Walter Mouton and my uncle, Bubby Myers on bass. (Photo courtesy of LSU)
At 18 I was drafted in the Army. After the Army I lived in Texas and Louisiana for many years playing music all this time.
In 1978, I moved to Virginia. A week later
I was playing with a country band.
In 1994, I started DJing professionally. It seems that I always had Louisiana
music on my mind. I am very proud to be a Cajun. I have always wanted to share
my Louisiana music and culture with the people of Virginia. That's what keeps me going.
LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL !!
